So Far Away

“So far away… Doesn’t anybody stay in one place anymore? It would be so fine to see your face at my door. Doesn’t help to know you’re just time away. Holding you again would only do me good. How I wish I could. But you’re so far away.”

I swear I miss you

Miss your paddling around

Most days are filled with too much sorrow

Yet I ground it down with a smile

I hold rosebuds, thorns pricking my fingers

Hoping blood drops replace tear stains

There’s no graveyard to stand on

To mourn on hallowed ground

I hear laughter

I see smiles

Yet only frostbite fuels my heart.

I want to remember what’s important

But I want to forget the pain

Paid a heartbreaks price as your sister

By knowing you

By playing soldiers on rocky waves

Biting plastic with unformed teeth

I nibbled while you commanded your battlefield

Soldiers teeter at your orders.

Now I’m left holding daydreams

When I really only wanna hold your hand.

I could write you ten thousand letters

I could pen you a million poems

Every utterance an ode to your memory

If only I could bring you back.

Every day that I sit missing you

Is another day acknowledging you’re gone

Another day of shadowed statues over invisible tombstones

And wishing that your memory was more than my simple remembrances.

beautiful. i hope you never fight your missing. it’s natural, and it’s good to acknowledge it as you learn to live a new normal.
